Usui Shiki Ryoho

The healing and soothing power of touch is something we are all familiar with. Parents will gently lay their hands on a distressed injured or unwell child to soothe and calm the child. When we experience physical pain we instinctively hold the part of our body where we are hurting. If we are experiencing uncomfortable emotions we may place our hands on our chest, abdomen, head or other parts of our body where we are experiencing the distress. Reiki greatly magnifies the beneficial effects of touch.
Reiki is a holistic therapy where healing energy, or ki is transferred through the practitioner’s hands to the client to assist the client’s innate (inborn) healing abilities to promote and maintain physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
Reiki can be helpful for a multitude of ailments, including various diseases, pain management, injuries, preparation and recovery from surgery, sleep disturbances, stress, anxiety and depression. In pregnancy, Reiki soothes both the unborn child and the mother helping mum to better manage the demands of pregnancy and everything else that is going on in her life. It is also very helpful during the postnatal period for both mother and child. Reiki is great for soothing children of all ages and helping them to sleep as well as assisting them to better manage the demands of school and other things that may be going on in their life. Indeed people of all ages can benefit greatly from regular Reiki treatments
When you arrive for your Reiki treatment, we will spend a moment or two chatting before you will be asked to lie down on the massage table and relax. The practitioner will take a moment to move into a calm, meditative state of mind before placing their hands gently on your body at various positions. Occasionally, or if requested, the practitioner may hold their hands a few centimeters away from your body instead of directly touching you. Hand positions are held anywhere from a minute to several minutes. Each session is unique to the recipient, but generally several hand positions will be held on the head and body. Special attention may be given to areas of discomfort. During a Reiki session the recipient often feels warmth, cold or tingling in the area being treated and an overall feeling of well-being and deep relaxation. A Reiki session generally lasts from forty-five minutes to an hour.
